Dr. Medina is an experienced board-certified, Harvard and Johns Hopkins trained plastic and reconstructive surgeon with over a decade of experience. He began his surgical training at the Massachusetts General Hospital at Harvard Medical School in Boston. From there he completed Plastic surgery training in the Harvard combined program spending time at all four Harvard academic hospitals. He then completed his training with an additional fellowship year in craniofacial surgery at Johns Hopkins learning additional skills in the treatment of the face, nose, eyelids, and facial skeleton.

Dr. Medina has always been interested in spearheading new innovations in plastic surgery. He is extensively published in peer reviewed literature, book chapters, and invited speakerships both nationally and internationally. While training at the MGH, he was awarded the prestigious Kazanjian research grant and utilized it to study fat grafting biology.  There, he spent two years studying adipose tissues and adipose tissue transfers. His research under the tutelage of Dr. William G. Austen Jr, lead to the first publication of the use of surfactant molecules in the preservation of fat grafts; ultimately leading to one of the most advanced fat transfer systems now available on the market. 

Afterwards, Dr. Medina went on to complete his training in plastic surgery in Harvard combined program. In his final year, he went on to serve in the coveted position of chief resident in plastic surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital. Reflective of his commitment to the training program and advancement of plastic surgery, he was awarded the Resident teacher of the year award upon graduation. 

Dr. Medina has always been very passionate about facial and nasal surgery, along with breast surgery. After completing the Harvard training program, he went on to further specialize in craniofacial surgery at the Johns Hopkins Hospital under the tutelage of Dr. Eduardo Rodriguez, a pioneer in advanced facial surgery. In addition, Dr. Medina spent time with Dr. Paul Manson one of the original pioneers in facial and nasal aesthetic surgery. It was at Hopkins that he truly developed the techniques and understanding of aesthetic facial and nasal surgery including a detailed understanding of nasal airways and aesthetics. 

Following his completion of fellowship training, Dr. Medina began his career at the Cleveland Clinic in Weston, FL. There, he performed a wide number of first cases for the Weston institution including: the first uses of computer aided design in complex craniofacial reconstruction; the first use of stacked flaps in breast reconstruction; the first three-piece fibula for both mandible and maxillary reconstruction using CAD/CAM; in addition to the first series of craniofacial nerve decompressions for the treatment of migraines and chronic facial pain. This in addition to developing a robust breast surgery practice at the Cleveland Clinic.

After starting his career at the Cleveland Clinic Dr. Medina was then recruited to start the division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Baptist. He still serves as the Chief of the group and is the former director of Microsurgery. In that capacity, Dr. Medina became an expert in both breast reconstruction for cancer, as well as leader in revisional surgery for cosmetic operations gone awry (“botched”). In addition, Dr. Medina has built a practice in complex rhinoplasty, revision rhinoplasty, and nasal airway surgery. His time spent reconstructing faces has led him to become an expert in facial aesthetics. Dr. Medina performs deep-plane face and neck lifts, along with revision and redo face and neck lifts. He believes in soft, natural results to give his patients the confidence they deserve to feel themselves without looking “done.”

Philosophically, Dr. Medina is a great believer in regenerative medicine and uses different regenerative products and strategies to achieve soft, natural looking results. He has a number of industry partnerships that gives him constant exposure to cutting edge techniques and products. He has been an invited lecturer both nationally and internationally, is an expert speaker in nasal, facial, and breast operations with numerous peer reviewed publications and presentations.
